An improvised explosive device has been deactivated at a newspaper kiosk called “Kumba Press Centre”, Buea Road, Kumba in the South West Region of Cameroon.
Locals discovered the explosive device attached to an electric meter in the early hours of Thursday, January 7th, 2021 then alerted defense and security officers.
While at the scene, the commissioner of Kumba Central Police station, Wilson Njume Njikang called on military specialists from the 6th military battalion who later deactivated the explosive device.
The divisional officer of Kumba 1, Ali Anogu, the senior divisional officer of Meme Division, Chamberlain Ntou’u Ndong, and other local authorities have congratulated locals for their collaboration to maintain the security of the town.
Authorities are pointing accusing fingers at ambazonian fighters for setting up the explosive device.
In September 2020, a similar explosive was discovered in a filling station and neutralized without causing harm.
The discovery comes 24 hours after a landmine planted by separatists killed four military men and a civilian in Momo division in the North West region of Cameroon.
