La Francophonie Boss insists Solution to Anglophone Crisis should come from Cameroonians

The Secretary General of the Organisation of LA Francophonie, OIF, Louise Mushikiwabo has insisted that the Organisation does not have a “miracle solution” to the Anglophone Crisis.

The solution however the SG noted, should come from Cameroonians themselves.

Secretary Louise was talking at the end of a joint visit to the Unity Palace with the Chair of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, and the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Patricia Scotland.

The encounter had as primary aim, the situation in the North West and South West and on the implementation of the recommendations of the Grand National Dialogue organized from September 30 to October 4, 2019.

After the talks that lasted over an hour, OIF SG said “we believe that we have an obligation to contribute modestly through advice, interventions in mediation or on technical subjects such as bilingualism and multiculturalism.” This to her, is considering the fact that “Cameroon is a very important country for our organizations, for the subregion and the continent”.

The AU Chairperson stated that “ the President of the Republic has once again expressed his readiness for dialogue and appeasement.” Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland on her part said “we are determined to do everything possible to support the ongoing peace process” as part of the National Dialogue.

The three diplomats had already been in Cameroon separately, December 2017 for the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, July 2018 for the President of the African Union Commission and May 2019 for the Secretary General of the OIF.

Two of the three personalities: AU Chair and Commonwealth SG are visiting Cameroon for the second time since armed conflict began in the restive English Speaking Regions of the country. Critics say there has been lack of political will for the institutions to mount pressure on the regime to address the crisis.
