Lawyer For Ayuk Tabe & Co. Receiving Death Threats

Human rights lawyer, Barrister Njong Henry Tita has raised an alarm stating that his life is at stake. In a writeup on social media in his name, the Barrister is said to be getting serious threats against his life from the Cameron military and other state agents.

“I am one of the leading lawyers who have been defending the the 10 separatist southern Cameroon leaders who were abducted from Nigeria, brought and sentenced to life imprisonment before the Yaounde military court, that is Seseko Ayuk Take and Co,” reads the writeup.

“Besides this I have been leading a team of over 50 lawyers defending other persons detained in connection with the the Anglophone crisis in Cameroon,” he further asserts.

Having been involved in reporting any injustices, the Barrister says one of such was the Buea prison riot of 23 July 2019. “My report contradicted the government position and the regime attempted arresting me but for the timely intervention of the Cameroon and African bars and other human right organizations that put a halt to same. My quest to see and do justice has earned me a lot of bitterness amongst those perpetrating injustice in Cameroon who now see me as an enemy,” he says.

“To that effect I have been receiving threats so much threats from both the military and other state agents. The threats have now reached an intolerable point where the military are calling me on daily basis asking me to report at the military camp in Buea Cameroon,” he adds.

Referring to one of the supposed state agents as commander John, the legal mind says “[he] told me that they have spies on me and that my activities defending the Anglophones tantamounts to supporting and collaborating with the secessionists.”

“To this effect, I am informing all to be aware that my life is at risk for being a lawyer standing against oppression and injustice,” Barrister Njong Henry Tita writes.

The threat is not the first of its kind on lawyer in connection to the Anglophone crisis. One of the lawyers for late journalist, Samuel Wazizi had reported similar threats after promising to seek justice for his client.
