Leaders upbeat about Southern Cameroons International Conference which starts tomorrow

Leaders of the Coalition for Dialogue, an organization advocating for dialogue as solution to the Anglophone crisis, are upbeat for an international virtual conference meant to discuss the crisis in the Northwest and Southwest Regions.

Scheduled to start tomorrow, October 30 online, the Southern Cameroons International Conference will run till Monday, November 1.

Members of the conference’s steering committee, Denis Foretia and Judith Nwana, have said 700 delegates have already been approved to participate in working groups at the conference.

These delegates will be assessing, analyzing the crisis, and propose a way out that will address the root causes of the conflict.
“Amongst those scheduled to speak during this 3-day Conference are H.E. Dr Amos Sawyer, Ambassador Herman Cohen, Dr. Christopher Fomunyoh, Pa Augustine Ndangam, Frontline leaders, Civil Society, German Parliamentarians and French Parliamentarians. International observers will be present including the United States Congress, diplomats, international non-governmental organizations and many more,” states a release from the conference’s steering committee.
The body urged for participation from Southern Cameroonians and people who are interested in the conflict in the Northwest and Southwest.

“If you have not yet registered, you should do so today as it promises to be an incredible event!” the Coalition for Dialogue urged.

Many people in Southern Cameroons, IDPs and Refugees have already shown great involvement and interest in participating in the conference, the steering committee says.

The conference was carried forward from March and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was transformed into a virtual event.
According to the steering committee, “our planning team has been working very hard over the past few months to put together a virtual event that would allow significant deliberation and opportunities to interact with other conference delegates and observers.”

The committee said all is set for the conference to begin and a virtual Southern Cameroons Auditorium has been designed such that participants can engage with delegates easily.

To participate, the Coalition for Dialogue has said people can record 2-minute video statements with proposals on the way forward and send via WhatsApp to the number: +13126177280.
To make a floor statement, signup on the organization’s website: https://aic.coalitionfdn.org/submitting-written-or-oral-statements/
