Limbe fire incident leaves IDPs homeless

A house in Ambas Bay, Limbe has been reduced to ashes. The wooden structure, locals say, played host to among others, persons displaced by the war in the Anglophone regions of the country.

The flames were contained from spreading to nearby buildings by the firefighting unit in collaboration with youths of the locality.

“The source of the fire is unknown. Everyone is attributing the incident to superstition,” says a first responder.

Amateur footage shows locals and firefighters rushing to the rescue.

It now remains uncertain what will become of the fire victims especially IDPs who are now for a second time homeless.

This is not the first fire incident in the locality or Limbe as a whole. Last week a fire was put out in the home of a teacher.

The fire, locals say, ravaged a basket of clothes and a bed.

“People had to break in and turn out the fire…,” a local says.

Despite fire incidents yearly, the town of Limbe remains without a firefighting unit and often has to rely on the team from the National refinery, SONARA.
