Limbe teaming with activities as FENASSCO A games kick off

The coastal city of Limbe, South West Region, is abuzz with activities as athletes and officials finalise preparations to kick off the highly anticipated FENASSCO League A games for secondary schools.

Fondly referred to as the “Town of Friendship,” Limbe is poised to welcome thousands of visitors from all corners of Cameroon for this prestigious sporting event set to kick off tomorrow, April 3.

Today, April 2, marks the eve of the grand launch, and the excitement among residents and participants is palpable.

The 24th edition of FENASSCO A games is being held under the theme, “School games, a guarantee of peace and sustainable development.”

Preparations are in full swing, and enormous infrastructure has been set up to ensure the smooth and successful organisation of the event, which will end on April 9.

The games will be played in 12 sporting disciplines, including football, handball, volleyball, basketball, and more.

But before the main event commences, today will witness the competition of the Minister’s Cup, where teachers will showcase their athletic prowess under the watchful eye of the Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Nalova Lyonga.

The Minister is already in town and her presence could be felt this morning with the enormous defence and security officers at the event grounds.

Inside Government High School Limbe, one of the designated venues for the games, students are doing final rehearsals, fine-tuning their performances ahead of tomorrow’s opening ceremony.

From secondary to high school students and those from teacher-training colleges, participants are diligently preparing to captivate spectators with their displays of skill and athleticism.

Meanwhile, security measures have been significantly heightened in the vicinity of the event venues to ensure the safety and security of all attendees.

Last month, the organisational committee revealed that a staggering 2,170 athletes would be participating across 12 sports disciplines.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium, with the South West facing the North West in girls’ football, and the West Region pitted against the East Region in the same discipline.
