Littoral: Conundrum as Regional Delegate orders immediate reopening of closed schools

The Littoral Regional Delegate for Education, has contradicted the Mayor of the Douala I council by ordering all Nursery Schools which had been asked to close, to be immediately reopened.

In the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the Litoral, the Mayor sought to mitigate the spread amongst minors by ordering Nursery Schools in his jurisdiction to immediately suspend activities.

However, Basic Education authorities feel that the decision taken by the Mayor was hasty, uncoordinated and highly inappropriate.

The Regional Delegation for Basic Education has annulled the Mayor’s decision, by ordering that schools closed by the Mayor be reopened as soon as possible.

Having overturned the Mayor’s Decision in a Communiqué earlier today, the Regional Delegation for Basic Education has recommended that schools work hand in glove with the head of the Deido Health District in order to put in place the best conditions for a safe studying environment for the kids.

The communiqué also announced a mass COVID-19 tests for both Pupils and Teachers, of which it said that positive cases will be identified and properly treated in isolation amongst others.
