A woman in Loum, a town in the Littoral Region of Cameroon, is reported to have set ablaze her home in anger after discovering her husband’s involvement in extramarital affairs.
Reports indicate that the woman set the rented house on fire using a bottle of fuel to enact her fury.
Equinoxe TV reported that the mother of two initially asked her husband to evacuate the premises, but he reportedly refused.
Fueled by emotions, she resorted to arson, bringing down the family’s residence.
Eyewitnesses recounted the unfolding events, with one individual stating, “I woke up to go to the toilet when I realised smoke emanating from the house. I came to the other side and saw that smoke was also coming off from that side.”
The incident took place around 5:30 in the morning, prompting concerned neighbours to respond to the commotion.
Upon arriving at the scene, locals managed to save some items, including pots and kitchen utensils, from the engulfed house.
The destructive act left the residence in ruins, serving as a visible manifestation of the woman’s emotional distress.
The incident raised questions about the woman’s mental health at the time of the incident.
“The way she was talking, you could feel she was not mentally stable,” a neighbour of the woman told Equinoxe.
Conversely, another neighbor contested this narrative, asserting that the woman was not psychologically disturbed but rather driven by the strong emotions triggered by her husband’s alleged infidelity.
“She was just angry because she saw her husband with another woman,” the neighbour said.
This incident follows a concerning trend in Cameroon where some women resort to extreme actions in response to their partner’s infidelity.
In August 2022, MMI reported on a woman who infamously severed her husband’s manhood after catching him cheating on their matrimonial bed.
