President Paul Biya is to address Cameroonian youths home and abroad from 8:00 pm Wednesday, February 10th, 2021. This will be the 38th time Paul Biya will be delivering a speech to address the problems of young people in Cameroon since he came to power in 1982.
To Tita Stella, job seeker and holder of a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies, the problem of unemployment is a major issue.
“When you see the budget of Cameroon, money to be consumed by members of government and civil servants is more than to invest and create wealth and employment. This is a clear indication that unemployment is a permanent thing in Cameroon,” she said.
In such a situation, she is reluctant to watch the speech of the president. “I will keep myself busy doing something at that time. I am convinced that he is going to repeat the same thing over the years”.
President Paul Biya failed to state statistics of job creation during his state of the nation’s address on the 31st of December 2020.
To Stanley Mbante, there will be a big announcement tonight. “The president will make pronouncements on how to combat unemployment. As young people, we need to be positive and always expect the best. The number of years in power does not count, let’s expect better things from the president of the Republic.”
The 55th edition of Cameroon’s National Youth Day is celebrated on the theme “Youth, Resilience, Challenges, and Opportunities in Times of COVID 19”.
The traditional march-past was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
