Major Happenings in Cameroon Tonight

Ahead of the World Press Freedom Day, the Cameroon Association of English speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ will tomorrow launch a solidarity fund. The scheme is meant to assist members persecuted for their work.

Different journalism-related bodies are carrying out different activities to mark the World Press Freedom Day, 2022. In the University of Buea, students will take part in a solidarity game. Journalists in the town earlier participated in a clean up campaign with the hygiene and sanitation company, HYSACAM.

Two separatist fighters who tried to disrupt International Labour Day celebrations in Fundong, North West Region were shot dead by security forces. Reports say the two were killed and a self-proclaimed general in Abuh-Fundong wounded in the process.

Some Secondary Education teachers say Minister Nalova’s threats may produce unwanted results. The Secondary Education Minister had asked that names of indisciplined teachers be submitted to her. In many parts of the Anglophone regions, teachers continue to face difficulties getting to schools due to threats from separatist fighters.

Yaounde, the capital city of Cameroon has remained polluted for close to a week. This is after HYSACAM workers dropped their tools — demanding better pay and other social benefits.
