Man connives with thieves to rob own brother

A 37-year-old man has led a group of thieves into his brother’s house in Bertoua. They stole money and pieces of jewelry.

Judicial police authorities in Bertoua, Cameroon’s East region, have arrested 37-year-old Hamadou Djibrilla for teaming up with other bandits to rob his own brother.

Speaking to the press recently, Hervé Djeumo, Head of the Regional Judicial Police in Bertoua, said the bandits were apprehended after the victim filed a complaint.

One of them, Oumarou, 31, confessed to the media, saying, “We entered and found three people in the house. As we saw the saves, we brought them to the living room. But transporting it was difficult.”

How it happened

On August 17th, 2023, Hamadou and his gang of thieves broke into his own brother’s home at night.

Police reports indicate that they were able to access the home, armed with two heavily loaded guns, after pretending to be electricity agents. “They made away with valuable items such as gold watches, necklaces, and others.”

In an interview with the press, Djeumo said the gang leader (Hamadou) was the junior brother of the victim. “For unknown reasons, he recruited the people who came and stole in his brother’s house,” Djeumo said.

The burglars were napped in Yaounde and transported to Bertoua, where they are expected to face the law.

Hamadou opted to remain silent. Family members have expressed shock.
