According to the prosecutor’s office, shots were fired in a busy area of Paris, leaving at least three persons dead and four more injured.
The attacker has been taken into custody, according to Paris police, and the situation on the Rue d’Enghien has been brought under control.
“Together With his firearm, the gunman has been taken into custody.” Said a police source, who added that the threat has passed.
A 69-year-old male has been detained in connection with the incident, the office added.
Mayor Alexandra Cordebard stated, “The gunfire happened at a Kurdish community centre located in the Rue d’Enghien as well as at a café facing the Kurdish centre and a hairdresser.”
Cordebard continued, “The attacker was also hurt and is in the hospital.”
According to the French BFM TV, the shooter had attacked a migrant camp a year prior. It is not clear yet what the motive behind the shooting was.
Based on the location of this attack and the previous incident a year ago, speculations are rife that the attacks are either racially or anti immigrant related.
