Manchester City defeated Fulham to reclaim the Premier League lead, with Erling Haaland scoring his 50th goal of the season in all competitions.
City won their eighth Premier League game in a row to go to the top of the table! In the end, Guardiola’s players had a rather straightforward victory. Fulham narrowly equalised following Haaland’s early penalty, but Alvarez restored the champions’ advantage before halftime, and they never looked like relinquishing it.
After Julian Alvarez was fouled by Tim Ream in the third minute, Haaland converted a penalty to become the first top-flight player to reach 50 goals in a season since Tom ‘Pongo’ Waring for Aston Villa in 1931.
The Norwegian striker also tied Andy Cole’s record of 34 Premier League goals for Newcastle in 1993-94 and Alan Shearer’s record for Blackburn a year later.
Fulham, on the other hand, equalised in the 15th minute with their first chance of the game, when Carlos Vinicius powerfully struck past Ederson after Harry Wilson had headed the ball into his path.
However, the hosts were unable to record what could have been a remarkable result.
Manchester City recovered their lead in the 36th minute thanks to Alvarez’s brilliant drive from 25 yards out, which was saved by Jack Grealish.
With a game in hand, City jumps above – and one point ahead of – Arsenal.
City has moved ahead of Arsenal for the first time since mid-February as they seek to win the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup treble.
