Sekou Kone going to Manchester United
Manchester United have continued their summer spending spree with the acquisition of 18-year-old Malian talent, Sekou Kone. The highly-rated defensive midfielder joins the Red Devils from Guidars FC in a deal worth around £1 million plus add-ons.
“Sekou Kone to Manchester United was completed yesterday after exclusive news out of nowhere,” Fabrizio Romano wrote on X.
Kone, who has been touted as one of Africa’s brightest young prospects, caught the eye of several Premier League clubs following his impressive performances at the Under-17 World Cup last year. His standout displays helped Mali reach the semi-finals of the tournament, where he showcased his defensive solidity and attacking flair.
Despite his tender age, Kone has already amassed 12 caps for Mali at youth level, including appearances at the Africa U17 Cup of Nations. His arrival at Old Trafford marks the fifth summer signing for Erik ten Hag’s side, following the additions of Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui.
Manchester United have been monitoring Sekou Kone’s progress for some time, beating off competition from several European clubs to secure his signature. The Red Devils are believed to have been impressed by his potential and see him as a valuable addition to their squad for the future.
“Man Utd have been working on this deal for months in background to anticipate Ajax + two German clubs,” Romano added.
