The Fon of Mankon, HRH Angwafor IV Fru Asaah, made a compelling case for the construction of the Bamenda-Mbengwi road during his visit to the Ministry of Public Works on Monday, April 29.
Accompanied by the President of the North West Regional House of Assembly, Prof. Fru Angwafor, the Fon highlighted the significant agricultural potential of the road and its potential to create an agricultural basin in the North West.
The Bamenda-Mbengwi, which connects the Momo Division headquarters Mbengwi, to the Regional capital, Bamenda, has been in a porous state, warranting reconstruction.
Fon Angwafo IV emphasized that the construction of this road would not only benefit farmers but also provide a solution to the transportation challenges facing the region.
He also stressed the importance of the road in facilitating access to the Bafut Airport, the biggest aviation facility in the North West Region.
Describing the road as of utmost economic importance, the Fon added that its completion would facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce from the localities concerned and help reduce insecurity prevailing in the North West Region.
While the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Njoumesi, did not make any commitments regarding the construction of the road, he acknowledged its importance and discussed potential measures for its development.
Minister Njoumesi pointed out that developing this route would also facilitate access to the Bafut Airport, aligning with broader regional development goals.
The Fon’s plea comes at a time when Cameroon has been witnessing significant infrastructure developments, particularly in road construction.
The National Road linking Babadjou and Bamenda is nearing completion, with over 50 percent of the work already executed.
The construction of the Bamenda-Babadjou stretch includes additional structures such as road rehabilitation, schools, and markets.
