The Senior Divisional Officer of Diamaré, Maroua in the Far North region of Cameroon has warned citizens regarding today’s planned protest by the Cameroon Renaissance Movement.
In a release on Monday, Ekoa Mbarga Jean Marc said anyone who dares to answer to the call for protest, using any mode of transport or even marching, “… Will face the strictness of the law by a systematic arrest and impoundment of the means of transport used…”.
The administrator added that Diamaré Division has had its fair share of economic challenges imposed by the Boko Haram insurgency, and is thus “… In need of serenity to relaunch its economic development with the support of its sons and daughters.”
The SDO’s warning comes after similar instructions by state authorities in different regions and towns ahead of the planned protest today.
Despite the threats, the CRM party and Prof Maurice Kamto have insisted on their protest, stating that it falls within the ambits of the constitution.
