Maroua Mourns Fallen Soldier in Boko Haram Attack

A soldier from Maroua, in the Far North Region, has been killed in a Boko Haram assault near Waza, Logone-et-Chari Division, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups in the region.

Sergeant Bayangbe Sambo, a native of the Ngoyang neighbourhood in Meskine, lost his life while serving in a military operation. The attack took place in one of the most volatile areas of the country, frequently targeted by armed groups.

Sambo recently graduated with a university degree and joined the national armed forces less than a year ago. His decision to serve followed a strong commitment to public service and national security.

Security Operations and Regional Challenges

The region around Waza has seen repeated incursions by Boko Haram, part of the broader instability affecting parts of the Lake Chad Basin. Security forces remain deployed across the area to counter the persistent threats from insurgent movements.

Sambo was among many young Cameroonians tasked with defending their communities. His death underscores the challenges faced by personnel operating in hostile environments, often with limited resources and constant risk.

Community in Mourning

Residents of Maroua, especially in Meskine, mourn the death of Sergeant Sambo, who was widely known in the community. Local leaders and community members are expected to hold a tribute in the coming days to recognise his service.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation in the region as efforts to secure the Far North remain a national priority.
