Maroua: Three lives snuffed out in two jungle justice incidents

On Saturday and Sunday in the city of Maroua, the population, particularly the motorbike riders killed approximately “three motorcycle thieves”.

It began on Saturday as an assailant who had murdered a bike rider and tried to flee with his bike was apprehended by the bike riders of the Mayel Ibbé district and mercilessly beaten and burnt alive.

That same evening, another robber who had committed a similar act was also arrested by these same commercial motorcycle riders. He was equally burnt alive with the use of car tyres.

On Sunday, one other robber had this time around tried to rob a taxi from its driver. With resistance, the taxi driver was stabbed in the leg by the criminal. He managed to alert the population which successfully went after the thug and burnt him on the spot.

It is also revealed that despite the presence of the forces of law and order on these scenes, they were utterly helpless as the furious population was more than happy to end the lives of the apprehended thugs.

The motorbike riders and Taxi men equally say they have lost complete faith in the authorities and prefer to handle such problems their own way as some of these robbers at the end of the day are released by the authorities to continue from where they ended.
