Martin Ndongo Ebanga, Cameroon’s Olympic Medalist, Dies

Martin Ndongo Ebanga is no more. It is with immense sadness that we learn of the death of Martin Ndongo Ebanga, which occurred today at the CNPS Hospital in Yaoundé, following a long illness. At the age of 57, he leaves behind an immense sporting legacy and a mourning nation.

Born on March 23, 1966, in Yaoundé, Martin Ndongo Ebanga distinguished himself from a young age in the world of boxing. His amateur career was crowned with success, including a bronze medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the lightweight category. He also won several continental and national titles, becoming a true legend of Cameroonian boxing.

Turning professional in 1988, Ndongo Ebanga had an honorable career, notably competing for the WBC super-lightweight world title in 1992. While he never won a world championship belt, he left a lasting impression with his courage and determination in the ring.

After his sporting retirement, Ndongo Ebanga transitioned to coaching, passing on his passion and expertise to the younger generations of Cameroonian boxers. He also held positions within the Cameroonian Boxing Federation, contributing to the development of the sport in his country.

The passing of Martin Ndongo Ebanga is a great loss for Cameroon and the world of boxing. His memory will remain engraved in the hearts of all those who knew and admired him.
