Martinez Zogo’s family under threat – family lawyer reveals at press conference

By Tata Mbunwe

The family lawyer of murdered radio host Martinez Zogo has revealed that Diane Zogo, the late journalist’s wife, is under threat and was even attacked two weeks ago by unidentified men.

Barrister Calvin Job was speaking during a press conference organised in Yaounde on February 20 to express the family’s point of view on ongoing investigations concerning the late journalist’s killing.

He said Mrs Diane Zogo’s life is under threat. Unidentified men pursued her two weeks ago as she went to see her doctor, and destroyed her wind screen in an attempt to get to her.

“You should know that the widow of Martinez Zogo is under threat. She was even followed by two vehicles two weeks ago,” he said during the press conference.

The threat on Diane Zogo comes at a time when many high ranking personalities are being investigated concerning her husband’s murder.

Zogo was abducted on January 17, killed and his body was discovered on January 22 on the outskirts of Yaounde, when it was fast decomposing.

Among many people arrested for the crime is media billionaire Jean Pierre Amougou Belinga, who is reported to be a prime suspect.

At the press conference Zogo’s family lawyer said evidence brought against the suspects is substantial enough to indict them.

He added that Diane Zogo is being interrogated by a mixed commission that the government set up to investigate the murder of Martinez Zogo.

He called on lawyers representing accused persons in the Martinez Zogo case to respect the deceased by telling the public the truth.

Barrister Calvin Job is the third lawyer who has spoken to the press within the past three days concerning the Martinez Zogo case.

At a press conference on Saturday, Amougou Belinga’s lawyer, Charles Tchoungang, denied all accusations linking the media tycoon to the murder of Martinez Zogo. He also counteracted testimonies given by Lt. Col. Justin Danwe, one of the suspects who have been arrested.

Meanwhile in an interview on Sunday, Danwe’s lawyer, Barrister Jaques Mbouny, also contradicted Barrister Tchoungang and maintained his client’s testimonies about Amougou Belinga’s involvement in the murder of Martinez Zogo.
