Jean Calvin Mebenga has now been transferred to the Kondengui Central Prison in Yaoundé following several weeks of detention at the National Gendarmerie.
The businessman was arrested on counts of involvement in fraudulent activities and the embezzlement of several Billions of FCFA which served as investments of more than 10,000 Subscribers to Mekit Invest.
The money invested by the Subscribers of Mekit was supposed to yield a net profit of 35% over a period of 21 months.
Lured in by this enticing deal, thousands of persons flocked in to make investments into the company, but the red lights started blinking when the Mekit boss wasn’t able to pay in the profits to Subscribers’ Investments.
Unable to recoup the amounts they were promised by the financial organization, Subscribers turned up in large chunks at the Mekit Invest headquarters in Mvan Yaoundé, to withdraw their investments from the company.
The outcry from many investors prompted the authorities to arrests the Mekit Invest boss, Jean Calvin Mebenga, and charge him for Fraud and Embezzlement.
