Matazwm Checkpoint: Centre of insecurity

The Matazem Checkpoint situated at the border between the North West and the francophone West region remains one of the most dreaded places marked by insecurity.

Paul Atanga Nji, minister of territorial administration visiting the area Tuesday, January 19th, 2021, called on the population to work in collaboration with the military to stamp out separatist activities.

In the presence of Adolph Lele L’Afrique and Awah Fonka Augustine, governors of the North West and West regions respectively, Paul Atanga Nji says security should be doubled in the area.

To locals, she says their frank collaboration will be a plus to win the security fight.

January 8th, 2021, four security officers and a civilian were shot dead at MATAZEM check by suspected separatist fighters.
