Maurice Kamto Urges Unregistered Voters to Prepare for January Window

The president of the Cameroon Rennaisance Movement (CRM), Maurice Kamto, has urged his supporters who have not enrolled on the electoral register to get ready for another window of registration.

Kamto said this as voter registration for the year 2024 came to an end on August 31 as per the calendar of the electoral rules.

For many Cameroonians who have not registered, they need to wait until January 2025 when Elecam opens the voter register again.

During the last day of registration on Saturday 31, for the year 2024, Kamto galvanised the population at Mokolo in Yaounde to enrol.

“Nothing defines Cameroonians better than their confidence in themselves, in their ability to rise to challenges, to triumph over situations thought to be lost. That’s why our national team, the Indomitable Lions, fearlessly take on any opponent and so often emerge victorious from matches where they were thought to be defeated,” Maurice Kamto said on X.

“This is exactly what you, Cameroonians at home and abroad, have just shown by registering to vote. Your massive mobilisation has shown that when you want it, nothing can beat you, and that you will be the Indomitable Lions of the 2025 presidential election,” he added.

He congratulated his courageous CRM members, who worked tirelessly despite the obstacles to get Cameroonians to register to vote in large numbers, as well as to members from other political parties, religious authorities, ELECAM agents, civil society organisations, and traditional authorities who helped mobilise the population for this historic voter registration campaign.

“Well done to our people from all regions of the country and from all walks of life, who responded en masse to our call to do so. This citizen mobilisation must not weaken. On the contrary, it must continue unabated from January 2025, which will provide an opportunity for those who were unable to register this year to catch up and an opening for young people who will be turning 20 next year. 2024 was an extraordinary year for the electoral roll registration campaign. Let’s make 2025 an exceptional year in this respect,” Maurice Kamto said.

His target is for them to reach at least 10 million voters for the forthcoming elections to change Cameroon in 2025 through the ballot box and in Peace! “I am counting on all of us,” he said.

As of June 2024, Elecam said it has witnessed an increase of 461,559 new voters.

Statistics show that barely 50% of qualified citizens have registered to vote in the upcoming presidential elections in 2025.

Currently, only over 7.9 million Cameroonians have registered.
