Maurice Kamto Vs Paul Biya: Battle for audience tonight as both address the nation

Cameroonians home and abroad will have to make choices tonight on either to watch the message of Prof. Maurice Kamto, president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM) party or that of president Paul Biya, President of Cameroon and leader of Cameroon People Democratic Movement(CPDM).

While Prof. Kamto will be using his official Facebook page to recap events that happened in the course of the year 2020, president Paul Biya will be doing a similar thing on TV, radio, and online.

The two political figures are due to start their respective addresses at 8:00pm central Africa time.

To Tangwa Raphael, an inhabitant of Douala, Prof. Maurice Kamto’s address to the nation has no impact on the socio-political and economic well-being of Cameroonians.
“I will watch the speech of President Paul Biya. He is the president of Cameroon and defines the policy of the country, not a mere opposition leader,” he stated.

Contrary to him, Kemfact Jean is of the opinion that Paul Biya’s close to four decades state of the nation’s addresses to Cameroonians has so far yielded no fruits.
“What we have to show is corruption, embezzlement by members of government, inadequate provision of basic necessities like water and electricity among others,” he said.

He argues that Cameroonians have lost interest in the monotony of President Paul Biya delivering speeches with no improvement in the lives of people.

To other city dwellers, technology has made things possible so they can follow one of the messages live and watch another on social media later.

Some Cameroonians are not sure if electricity will be available at the time of the speeches. They point that constant blackout has been one of the hallmarks of the regime of President Paul Biya with tonight likely not to be an exception.
