Mayor Biyong Reiterates Support for Issa Tchiroma, Hails ‘Elected President’ in Open Letter

A Cameroonian mayor, Biyong Joseph Espoir Vybe-Mood, has publicly reiterated his support for HE Issa Tchiroma Bakary. He addressed him as the “elected President of the Republic of Cameroon” in a strongly worded open letter that adds to the growing political tension following the disputed 2025 presidential election.

In the letter, shared online on his official Facebook page, Mayor Biyong praises Tchiroma’s “unwavering commitment to democracy and justice,” describing his post-election stance as a source of inspiration for many Cameroonians disillusioned with the country’s political system.

“Your determination to defend the truth and the rights of the Cameroonian people is now an example for us all,” Biyong wrote, commending Tchiroma for contesting the election results and maintaining his claim of victory despite pressure and threats.

Praise for defiance and peaceful resistance

The mayor highlighted Tchiroma’s refusal to back down after the October 2025 presidential poll, saying his decision to stand firm demonstrated leadership “that does not allow itself to be intimidated by obstacles.” He particularly welcomed Tchiroma’s calls for peaceful resistance and national prayer as a means of pushing for political change.

“Your appeal for peaceful resistance and prayer for a change of regime resonated deeply with me and with many Cameroonians,” the letter states, framing the opposition leader’s message as one of moral courage rather than confrontation.

A message of hope and personal conviction

Beyond politics, Biyong’s letter takes on a deeply personal tone. He describes Tchiroma’s presence in his life as “a breath of fresh air,” saying it reshaped his worldview and restored his belief in the possibility of a better Cameroon.

“You have embodied hope for a Cameroon where peace, justice and equity prevail,” he wrote, adding that despite the many challenges ahead, Tchiroma’s message has already taken root among supporters.

The mayor also echoed Tchiroma’s denunciation of electoral fraud and authoritarianism, expressing support for what he called a vision of a “new Cameroon” free from tyranny and rigged elections.

In a closing passage that highlights the gravity of the current political climate, Biyong said he would pray for Tchiroma’s “peaceful return to Cameroon” and for his continued efforts toward justice and peace.
