Brentford’s Cameroonian international, Bryan Mbeumo, is set to endure an extended period on the sidelines due to an ankle injury sustained during Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Brighton.
The news was confirmed by Brentford head coach Thomas Frank, who expressed concern about the severity of the injury.
Mbeumo, who had been a key player for the ‘Bees,’ limped off the field during their 2-1 defeat to Brighton.
The 24-year-old forward had notched up his seventh goal of the season from the penalty spot before being forced to exit the match in the first half.
The injury occurred following a collision with Brighton’s Pascal Gross.
Coach Frank acknowledged the seriousness of Mbeumo’s condition, stating, “It is bad. He’ll have a scan later, but we don’t know the exact number of weeks he will be out.”
Frank added, “He will definitely not play on Saturday [against Sheffield United], and he will be out for weeks. We will know more in the next couple of days.”
Mbeumo’s early departure from the game was a blow to Brentford, with the coach emphasizing the player’s significant contributions this season.
With 11 goal involvements in 15 Premier League games, Mbeumo had become a pivotal figure for the team.
“[Bryan] must be number two after Ivan [Toney] in terms of goals and assists, which is key. His work rate for the team is incredible; you don’t see many wingers who work so hard and mean so much. He’s become the key man – ‘give me the ball, I’ll take this’. Who will that man be now? We’ll find out in the next weeks,” Coach Frank remarked.
The absence of Mbeumo poses a challenge for Brentford, especially considering Ivan Toney’s existing suspension until January.
Despite the setback, Coach Frank expressed confidence in the team’s ability to find suitable replacements and adapt to the situation.
“…it was also hard to replace Ivan. We normally find a way. That’s football and it happens sometimes. We will find a solution. There are other players who can step up,” Frank added.
As the club awaits further details from the upcoming scan, the Brentford faithful will be anxiously hoping for a swift recovery for Bryan Mbeumo, whose presence has been instrumental in the team’s Premier League campaign this season.
