Mbouda: Two children drown in well

Two-year-old Archangel Djuikem, and three-year-old Johnson Ibrahim Kueda, died after drowning in a well in the town of Mbouda, West Region of Cameroon.

Reports say the children were playing around the courtyard of the house when suddenly the silence which reigned attracted the attention of their parents.

Before discovering the lifeless bodies in a well at the neighbor’s compound, parents say they had combed through the neighborhood in an attempt to find them to no avail.

According to Brenda Salatsa, a parent of the deceased children, she had to return home after several hours of looking for her children.

When she returned home, it was then that the neighbor who was returning from his shop was informed of the disappearance of the children.

Once in his home, he noticed an unusual footprint of children that lead to the well. The bucket of water that is usually filled and placed on the edge of the well was sitting at the bottom of the water which appeared turbid.

It was then that Sieur Foffou Joseph called out his children to find out if they had undertaken work in the well, but their answer was no. He, therefore, called on the neighbors to proceed with the excavation of the well.

The bodies of Archangel and Abdou were then recovered and handed over to the inconsolable family
.
The incident challenges parents and guardians of young children to be more vigilant in not letting children escape their watch.
