Meme division: Big Ngbandi youths reconnect locality to Kumba

Half a month after being cut off from the town of Kumba in the Meme division, residents of Big Ngbandi in Mbonge can again conveniently visit their Divisional headquarters, by road.

They had gone for two weeks without the ability to do so.

“… for two weeks now after heavy rains over-flooded the Kah River which led to the collapse of the Kah bridge,” explained a local.

“The Kah bridge is the last bridge linking the Big Ngbandi people to the Bakumba people on the way to Kumba, the main town and Headquarters of Meme Division,” he added.

Following the carrying away of the bridge by the river, attributed to heavy rains, youths of the affected locality stepped in and provided solution to their issue.

Movement is now possible, “thanks to the vibrant youths of Big Ngbandi who organised community work to set-up a temporal bridge to facilitate the transportation of peoples and property to and from Kumba in this rainy season while hoping to set-up a permanent structure during the dry season.”

Chief town of the Meme division, Kumba remains vital to the economy of the South West Region as a whole, and is a transit town for products coming in from Nigeria through Mamfe, to Fako and even the Littoral region.
