Menchum gets electricity after five months in blackouts

Menchum elites have reechoed the need for the construction of the Menchum Dam as electricity returns to the division for the first time in five months

Menchum is one of the divisions in the North West region with extensive energy potentials, which according to experts, can generate between 400 and 500megawatts of electricity for the entire region and beyond.

Despite this potential that the division can boost of, it continues to suffer from chronic electricity shortages.

For five months, the division has been without electricity and inhabitants resulted to the use of generators. After months of blackouts, electricity supply has been restored in Wum.

During a political event to reorganise the basic organs of the CPDM party in Menchum constituency, Mayor Anthony Dighambong of Wum called on the potential party bigwigs to voice out the energy concerns of the population that have been suffering for months.

“Lights just came back after about five months without electricity in Wum. We are appealing to the major stakeholders of the divisions to followup the Menchum hydroelectricity power project,” Mayor Anthony Dighambong said.

The construction of the Menchum Dam electricity project was planned to begin in late 2013 but since then, nothing has happened at the site.
