Mezam SDO says brutalised GTHS Nkwen student ‘got what he deserved’

The Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) of Mezam, has issued a statement, with a lame attempt to explain the incident that occurred at the Government Technical High School (GTHS) Nkwen Bamenda on Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Simon Emile Mooh challenged as unfounded, rumours that a student of the institution, Ngong Divine, was shot and killed by a security officer.

Emile Mooh, however, goes on to justify the brutalisation of the student on the grounds that he appeared “unkempt and drugged.”

“In the course of questioning, Divine became suddenly aggressive and unruly. Noticing the strange, suspicious and dreadful behaviour of the student, one of the security officers on duty on campus intervened and subdued the student,” Simon Emile Mooh said, accusing Ngong of misconduct after he arrived the school campus on Thursday morning.

Contradicting his earlier assertion that the student ‘appeared’ drugged, Emile Mooh goes on to state with certainty, that Ngong was drugged and his “co-drugged friends, non-students who were roaming outside the school premises forced, entered the campus and went on rampage, destroying didactic materials and other equipment.”

The SDO also confirms that conservative measures have been taken against the security officers.

This has fuelled questions as to why an officer would be punished if what he did was correct as the SDO indicated in the early part of his statement.

The MMI news team it should be noted had reported that security officers stationed in campus to restore order, have constantly harassed and brutalised students — and today was one of those days.

“We have had enough, we could not not stand it when we saw one of us being beaten. Ngong went passed out and this triggered anger and frustration,” said one of the students.

Students have now urged the administration of GTHS Nkwen, to withdraw all soldiers on campus, arguing that they “do not feel safe in their presence.”

Soldiers have been present on GTHS campus and other public schools since the start of the school year to “maintain peace and security” in the Anglophone Regions where a faction of the population have been clamouring for an independent state called ‘Ambazonia’.
