A team of defense and security forces has inaugurated a water project in Wum, Menchum division of the North West region to address a perennial problem of potable scarcity in the locality. The twenty thousand liters water project is expected to supply potable water to five neighborhoods in Wum.
The commander of the 5th Joint Military Region, Brigadier General Nka Valere inaugurated the project recently. While inaugurating the project, General Nka described the water supply as a catalyst towards reinforcing civilian-military cooperation.
The defense and security forces say the project was initially constructed for the soldiers of the 53rd Motorized Infantry Battalion who were affected by water scarcity in the dry season.
The commander of the 53rd Motorized Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Yaouba Maidoki said they had to extend the basic social amenity to five neighborhoods situated below the slopes of the military camp.
“It’s a facility that is going to solve a major problem in the town. We do everything to help them to continue to provide them with portable water”, he said.
The population on their part described the water process as self-sustaining as it will go a long way to help salvage the water crisis the area was facing. The defense forces are also to equip Government High School Weh with benches.
The commander of the 5th Joint military region was in the Menchum division to assess the security situation of the area. He carried out some civil-military actions in the interest of the population.
