Military relaunch operations in Belo, kills 2 suspected separatists, force locals to clean town and resume normal activities

A heavy military operation is currently ongoing in Belo Sub-Division in Boyo Division, birth place of the bloody quest for independence by Separatists in the North West Region.

“The army on Monday June 12, 2023 killed two separatists fighters and on Tuesday the population was forced to come out and clean the three corners round about,” narrated a source.

MMI has learned that the move is geared towards bringing normalcy to the conflict-hit town.

“The motor park that had relocated into the quarters has been brought back to its original site,” the source added.

Commercial activities shutdown in Belo way back in 2016 at the start of the anglophone Crisis and till present, Belo town has been in ruins.

Reports on the ground say separatists fighters have escaped to the hills — while the military have continued the raid of the Sub-Division visiting homes and conducting searches while encouraging shop owners to come back and reclaim their shops.

Troops have been stationed from Belo town right to Bobong in Njinikom Sub-Division in what many anticipate shall be a serious fight in the days ahead.

Belo made news at the start of the anglophone armed conflict when gendarmes were butchered at a check point after the Mbingo hospital and a military response saw the emergence of Separatist ‘generals’ RK and Amigo that gave a tough time to the Cameroon defense forces for years.
