Minister goes soft on transport companies despite rising accident-related deaths

The Minister of Transport, Jean Massena Ngalle Bibehe has sent a warning to agencies transporting persons and goods, following a series of deadly road accidents recorded in the Center Region.

In a communiqué published by the Ministry on August 5 2021, it analsysed three accidents which all happened withing the space of 24 hours.

The first of these accidents which involved a transport bus belonging to Charter Express and a truck belonging to the Société Synohydro saw at least 2 persons dead and more than 28 others injured.

The second accident which involved the Avenir de La Kadey saw at least 16 deaths and the third involved Solidarité Voyages Travel Agency killed more than 22 passengers.

Pointing to these latest spree of ghastly accidents, Minister Massena Ngalle Bibehe l called on the transport agencies to strictly follow road driving conduct and ethics while transporting passengers especially.

The Minister promised that any further accidents, will be met with heavy sanctions.

Many however say a warning is not enough after at least 40 persons were killed in and many more injured in these road accidents.

In previous times, the minister had slammed suspensions on these agencies, prohibiting them from functioning.
