Minister seizes over 25,000 litres of illicit fuel from Chinese camp

The Ministry of Water and Energy recently conducted a raid on a Chinese camp in Youpwe, Douala, confiscating 25,320 litres of illicit fuel.

This operation, which is part of the Ministry’s ongoing fight against petroleum fraud and was led by the National Brigade for the Fight Against Petroleum Fraud, based in Douala.

The task force, accompanied by defence and security forces, discovered a large stock of cubitainers containing petroleum products stored illegally at the camp.

According to the Ministry of Water and Energy, the objective of the raid was to enforce zero tolerance towards petroleum smuggling, aiming to eradicate this illegal activity due to its detrimental effects on the national economy and public safety.

“This mission, carried out in line with directives from MINEE, resulted in the seizure of 24,000 litres of diesel stored illegally,” the Ministry stated.

“The mission continued in other parts of Douala.”

In total, the operations led to the seizure of 25,320 litres of various petroleum products, including 24,200 litres of diesel and 24,200 litres of super, which were sent to the SCDP for further processing.

Since the beginning of 2024, the Ministry has conducted multiple seizures of petroleum products stored under unsafe conditions in residential areas.

A few months ago, a fire disaster in Tombel, Kupe Manenguba, was attributed to petrol stored in a house.
