Ministry of Finance decries enormous damages at the national treasury

There have been enormous material damages at the building hosting the national treasury in Yaounde, Cameroon .

In a communiqué signed by the Minister of finance Saturday July 25th 2020, he says “Measures are underway today July 25th to replace materials and equipment damaged and equally to reconnect electricity interrupted in the course of a fire incident”.

Louis Paul Motaze says the fire incident started at about 10:40 PM Friday July 24th at the national treasury particularly at the ICT section of the building. According to the communiqué, the prompt intervention of the military and elements of the fire fighting unit put out the flames at 12:20 AM Saturday July 25th.

On what caused the fire incident, the Minister says investigations have been opened to get the cause of the incident. Louis Paul Motaze reassures the general public and particularly workers of the national treasury that all is being put in place for work to resume normally at the treasury on Monday July 27th 2020.

Cameroonians have been expressing worries following the incident with others pointing accusing fingers at some workers for being at origin of the incident. Allegations that MMI cannot independently confirm at the moment.
