Woman stabbed to death in Douala
A 30-year-old woman named Edith Flore was killed in an attempted robbery in Douala. She was stabbed to death while trying to protect her 2-year-old son.
Armed men attacked the woman at her mobile money kiosk at “dernier poteau” in Douala, Littoral area of Cameroon. The incident, MMI has learned, occurred on October 4, 2023, at 8 p.m.
Sources say the woman told the police before she died that she thought the thieves were after her son. So, to protect her son, Flore fought back against the thieves and was stabbed in the process.
“If I knew they were coming for the money and not my son, I would have peacefully given them the bag of money,” sources quote the stabbed victim before her death.
Poor medical attention
Flore was quickly taken to a nearby hospital to receive medical care. Family members say the hospital was not able to give their daughter the right care to save her life.
“Things got more complicated when they got to the hospital.” “We had to take her to the Douala General Hospital right away, but she died there,” a family member told Equinoxe TV.
Another source says Flore would have lived if the hospital had given her adequate treatment and on time.
The family was also upset about the ridiculously high bills that Douala General Hospital Management gave them.
A family member said, “They charged us a lot of money for only fifteen minutes we spent at the hospital before she died.” People complained and asked how they could expect us to pay our bills when we couldn’t even see how much we spent. We even tried to tear the bills apart, but the police wouldn’t let us.”
Several news sources say that Edith’s murder is the third deadly incident to happen in that neighborhood in the past two months.
