Moussa Faki Hamat reelected AU Chairperson

HE Moussa Faki Mahamat will for the next four years serve the African Union as Chairperson.

He was voted for another mandate today, February 6, during the 34th AU ordinary session.

Held through videoconference, the session also saw the election of Congo’s Felix Tshisekedi as AU president, replacing South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa.

The new terms of office for Faki Mahamat and Felix Tshisekedi come as Africa like the rest of the world struggles with the raging Covid-19 pandemic and other challenges.

Another pressing challenge they will be expected to deal with in office is combatting the increase in terrorism plaguing several member states as well as find lasting solutions to numerous challenges facing Africa.
