Mr. Ibu Undergoes Leg Amputation After Seven Surgeries

John Okafor, the renowned comic actor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has had his leg amputated despite seven previously successful surgeries. The devastating news was disclosed by the family through an Instagram post, where they expressed their gratitude for the support they’ve received. The post read:

“Good afternoon, Nigerians. We want to appreciate everyone who has come through for our dad; saying we are grateful is an understatement, and only the good Lord can thank you all enough for every help you’ve rendered.

As of 1 p.m., noon today, Daddy has gone through 7 successful surgeries, but to keep him alive and increase his chances of recovery, one of his legs had to be amputated.

This development has been hard on us all, but we’ve had to accept it as Daddy’s new reality to keep him alive.

Please, we are still soliciting support from well-meaning Nigerians as, at this stage, Daddy is still very delicate, and he needs all the help he can get.”

This heartbreaking development follows the family’s announcement a few days ago that Mr. Ibu had undergone five surgeries and was scheduled to be flown abroad for further treatment.

Mr. Ibu’s Nightmare Realised

Back on October 19, we reported that Mr. Ibu was facing the grim possibility of losing his leg. The comedic actor said, “As I speak to you, I am still lying down in the hospital; the medical director of this hospital said that the best solution, in case his new idea didn’t work, is that the best idea is to cut off my leg,” while lying in a hospital bed with his wife and daughter.

“Just see me; if they cut off my leg, where do I go from here? Please pray for me, talk to God Almighty, and I don’t want my legs to be cut off. Thank you so much. God bless you,” he added.

A Storied Career

John Okafor, celebrated for his comedic talents, has enjoyed a prolific career in the Nigerian film industry, also known as Nollywood. With over 200 Nollywood movies to his credit, he has made an indelible mark on the entertainment landscape.
