MRC calls for impartial trial of suspects of Kamto’s attempted assassination

Many have been taken aback after news circulated today that the MRC’ Maurice Kamto was almost assassinated in Garoua.

The reports have officially been confirmed by the party in a press release.

The National Communication Secretary of the party in the release says the attempt was made by “two individuals aboard motorcycles” at the entrance to the town of Garoua.

The suspects, it notes, had infiltrated the politician’s procession, and pointed a firearm at him. Two were apprehended but “a third suspect managed to escape.”

“Professor Alain Fogue, National Treasurer of the MRC and member of the delegation, went to present the facts to the Governor of the North” the release explains, taking with him the “the seized weapon (automatic pistol) and apprehended bearer.”

“The MRC denounces these sad acts, which obviously constitute an attempt to assassinate Leader Maurice Kamto. The MRC demands that an impartial and serious investigation be immediately launched, and that the sponsors and actors of this assassination attempt be tried and sentenced, in accordance with the laws in force,” the party states.

“The MRC will keep national and international public opinion informed of developments,” it adds.

Maurice Kamto had pulled thousands weeks ago when he returned to Douala from a tour abroad.
