MRC calls for widespread boycott of Feb 9 polls

After pulling out of the 2020 twin elections in Cameroon, the MRC opposition party has made a call for a widespread boycott. In a press release in response to government communication concerning the legislative and municipal elections, the party noted that “the hawks in the regime have already decided to go into force and are ready to create chaos in the country from February 9th 2020”.Citing similar reasons for pulling out of the election on November 25, the party adds that its call is directed at ” those really interested in the future of the country”.Several other political parties have also pulled out of the race citing certain irregularities. The Social Democratic Front SDF party in a press conference in Yaounde said it is giving the government the period between now and the elections to take action on the Anglophone Crisis. The party which had earlier threatened to boycott the elections said it is not too late to go back to the decision.
