MTN Cameroon’s Apology Backfires as Users Decry Unusable Free Bundles

Over the weekend, MTN, one of Cameroon’s prominent telecommunication companies, faced a barrage of complaints from users who were unable to activate bundles, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the customer base.

MTN Cameroon, you’re a disgrace! No matter what, there’s no reason to justify why Cameroonians can’t activate data/call bundles for 24 hours. I have seen the reason why we need competitors in business,” lamented Promise on his Facebook handle.

Responding to user disgruntlement on Monday, November 27, 2023, MTN issued an apology accompanied by an offer of free internet bundles ranging from 3 to 5 gigabytes, as conveyed in a message received by a significant number of users.

The message read: “Dear…In every relationship, challenges can arise anytime. We sincerely apologise. Please accept a 5GB gift as a token of our love. Check on 15919#. Thanks.”

However, the gesture intended to pacify users turned into a source of further frustration, as MTN subscribers encountered ongoing difficulties in browsing throughout Monday, rendering them unable to utilize the promised compensation bundles.

To some users, the free bundle offer appeared to be a scam orchestrated by the telecommunications company.

“This MTN Cameroon’s apology is one big scam. Imagine apologising over something you haven’t even stopped doing. Been dialling codes from midday till now yet still haven’t succeeded,” criticised Sandra in response to MTN’s recent actions.

Throughout the day, many users struggled with sluggish network speeds, preventing them from swiftly browsing on social media. Some were compelled to switch to alternative networks to carry out their online activities smoothly.

“The whole of yesterday, I was not able to use up to 100 megabytes of the 5 gigabytes MTN claimed they offered because the network was so slow. How else can we describe such? Is this not a scam in broad daylight?” questioned Elma Winnie.

This incident is not the first time that the telecommunications company has faced criticism for providing subpar services to its users. On numerous occasions, MTN subscribers have complained about network issues affecting their browsing experience.
