Murdered mayor of Mamfe buried today


Priestly Ojong, 35, Mayor of Mamfe has today June 6, 2020 been laid to rest.

The young mayor was gruesomly killed in May, by armed separatist groups in an ambush in which two soldiers were also wounded, according to South West governor, Okalia Bilai.

The mayor’s convoy was attacked as he was travelling from Mamfe to the nearby village of Eshobi, in Manyu Division, South West Region

He was shot several times and he later died of his bullet wounds in his head.

At age 35, Priestly Ojong was undoubtedly one of the youngest mayors in Cameroon and still had his whole political career ahead of him.

He was elected Mayor of the Mamfe Municipality during the recently ended February 9, 2020 elections and was the holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Dschang.
