Nacho Massacre: North West House of Chiefs call for street protest

By Soulemanu Bouba

The President of the North West House of Chiefs (NOWEFU) has invited traditional rulers and others to join them in a solidarity march to denounce the killings at Nacho Junction on July 16th, 2023.

A press release signed by Fon Yakum Kiven, President of the North West House of Chiefs said the peaceful protest will take place on Thursday, July 20, from City Chemist Roundabout to the North West Governor’s Junction.

The release also called on Separatist fighters to drop their guns and join the Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration DDR Center.

Fon Yakum Kiven Fon of Bambalang who doubles as President of the North West House of Chiefs was abducted in 2021, and was only released on Thursday, June 1, 2023

Many are now anxiously waiting to see the Fons who will answer the protest call.

Critics say those to take part will mostly be those who have fallen out with their people — and have not been able to go to their palaces for fear of reprisal attacks from Separatists.

Many traditional rulers from Anglophone Cameroon have now taken refuge in hotels in towns and cities of Cameroon.
