1 An organisation of political parties. individuals and civil society organisations have pledged support for Cameroon National Bar Association ahead of a sit-in strike to start on the 16th of September. In a press conference in Douala today, they pledged massive support to the leaders of Cameroon Renaissance Movement as they go to court this Friday September 6th.  18 organizations- 13 civil society and 5 political parties came together under the Citizenship Front to sign a Declaration of Support to the Cameroon Bar Association strike action announced for 16-20 September 2019.

2 Calm has returned at Besengue Nouvelle Route at Douala 1 after a tensed afternoon marked by insecurity. Eight armed bandits are in police custody while four others are receiving medical attention following mob justice. Forces of law and order used tear gas and fired shots in the air to disperse the population and save the bandits.  The suspected armed robbers are said to have been giving sleepless nights to the local population.

3 The whereabouts of Mary Namondo Motimbe a radio animator at Radio Bonakanda in Buea Subdivision in the South Region of Cameroon remains unknown. She was kidnapped yesterday at about 10 pm by unknown gunmen after partially setting ablaze the community radio station.  The station manager of the radio Ndumbe Evambe Amos says the gunmen promised to get back to him when he talked with them yesterday.

4 There is an eminent organisation of national dialogue to end the anglophone crisis. According to reports by Equinoxe television, the spokesman of Anglophone General Conference (AGC), Elie Smith mentioned that, following a meeting between the conveners of the AGC and the Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute last week. No date has been announced for the organisation of the said national dialogue.

5 Will lawyers in Cameroon bow to the demand of the ministry of justice to call off the planned sit in strike scheduled to start on the 16th of September? That is the question on the lips of many Cameroonians after a crisis meeting between representatives of Lawyers and the Minister Delegate in Charge of Justice, Jean De Dieu Momo. Mr. Momo promised to look into the grievances of the lawyers.

6 The president of Cameroon National football professional league and that of Cameroon Football Association (FECAFOOT) are at dagger’s drawn. General Pierre Semengue president of the football professional league says Seidou Mbombo Njoya president of FECAFOOT has no competence to dismiss him as president of the league. The army general has turned down the post of a honorary president of FECAFOOT offered to him by the FECAFOOT executive.  He is determined to work till the end of his mandate in July 2020.

7 At least five people have died since the new phase of xenophobic attacks started in South Africa. As some South Africans continue destroying investments of foreigners and mostly Nigerians, Nigerians in their country have been attacking South Africans and their investments.  The federal government of Nigeria has recalled its Ambassador to South Africa in the wake of the crisis.

8 The maritime boundary case between Somalia and Kenya would not be ending anytime soon as some had predicted. This reality dawned on Kenya when Somalia blindsided them by challenging their latest push to have the case withdrawn or deferred to make way for an African Union-led mediation process.

9 Senior members of Nigeria’s government have been meeting to work out a strategy to save themselves following the $9bn (£7.4bn) energy scandal tha recently erupted. The details of the energy deals so far indicate that unless something significant is done by the government, it is likely to cost the Nigerian economy dearly.

10 Ghana’s impressive GDP growth and successful recapitalisation drive by its central bank, has placed the country in a pivotal position for a banking revolution. According to figures from the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) most recent growth projections, Ghana is poised to become the fastest-growing economy in sub-Saharan Africa in 2019. This projection comes from an expected GDP growth rate of 8.8 per cent.
