National Human Rights Commission Calls On Cameroonians To Patiently Wait For Presidential Election Results

The National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms in Cameroon has issued a statement on the just ended presidential election in Cameroon.

In a Yaounde-outing today, the chairperson of the National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms, Dr. Chemuta Divine Banda, the commission noted the following:

-On the pre-electoral phase: The commission was satisfied with the role played by the Constitutional Council during pre-electoral phase as the council took time to examine petitions filed in by some political parties whose candidates were rejected.
– The 9 candidates in the race could only successfully tour 8 regions of the country because of security threats in the North West and South West Regions.
-The Commission congratulates all citizens who freely exercised their civic rights/duty to choose who will lead the country for the next 7 years.
-Vote was conducted in peace through out the national territory despite some isolated incidents in some polling stations in the North West, South West regions.
-Commission denounces the unjustified limitation of the number of election observers especially those of the civil society organisations whose applications for accreditation were unjustly rejected by the government.

-The participation of registered voters was very low.
The Chemuta Divine Banda led organ, invites Cameroonians to wait in peace and serenity for the official proclamation of the results by the constitutional council.
