National Union of Cameroon Footballers protests lowering of basic salaries to 36,000Frs

The Union of Cameroon Footballers, better known by its French acronym, SYNAFOC has unequivocally rejected moves by FECAFOOT to lower the salaries of Cameroonian Professional Footballers.

FECAFOOT’s move might see professional footballers in Cameroon earn about 36,270FCFA. SYNAFOC, which is headed by former Cameroonian Midfielder, Geremi Njitap has argued that the base salary of Professional Footballers can in no way be lower than the Minimum Interprofessional Guaranteed Salary set for all professionals in the country.

SYNAFOC also added that during the 2011 footballing year, the Government took the initiative to support football by providing financial support to clubs to help in the payment of player’s salaries.

“In its commitment, the Cameroonian Government obviously taking into account the status of the Professional Footballer had set the Minimum wage at 100,000FCFA in Elite One and 50,000FCFA in Elite 2,” specified SYNAFOC.

Deducing from this, FECAFOOT intends to cut the wages of players by almost 64% for players of the Elite One Division and 14% for the Elite Two Players. SYNAFOC has denounced and protested the decision by FECAFOOT to drastically lower the salaries of footballers, and has therefore invited FECAFOOT to backtrack on the decision as it will be in the best interest of Cameroonian Football Professionals.
