NCPBM adopts over FCFA 2.9 billion budget; English remains second language

The National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism has adopted a budget of two billion nine hundred and eighty million francs cfa for the year 2021.

In a meeting Thursday January 21st, 2021, in Yaounde, members of the commission said they will focus on an equal use of Cameroon’s two official languages English and French with equal status.

Two years after the putting in place of the national commission for the promotion of bilingualism and multiculturalism headed by Peter Mafany Musonge, some Cameroonians have observed that the English Language has been relegated to the second place.

While most official and administrative documents are still being issued only in the French Language, those translated into English and poorly done.

This has undermined reasons for the creation of the commission.
