Ndim Jacob Ngong, a Buea farmer whose presidential dreams for this year’s election were quashed by Elections Cameroon, plans to register his party before the municipal and parliamentary elections in 2026.
Talking to MMI on Thursday, Ndim said after registering his party, Cameroon Rescue Youths Movement, he will ensure youths take over municipalities.
“I will try to see whether after the presidential election they can approve a party, the Cameroon Rescue Youths Movement. If it’s approved, I will have to ensure that young people occupy these councils and parliamentary seats so that in the coming presidential election, we will easily facilitate things,” Ndim Jacob told MMI in a telephone interview.
Ndim believes that with his party having representation in parliament and local councils, it will be a good start to revitalise his presidential aspirations.
One of the reasons why his candidacy was rejected was because he lacked the 300 signatures from elected representatives, required from an independent candidate.
Another plan for now, he says, is to back another candidate approved for this year’s presidential election.
However, he said he will look into the candidate’s manifesto to ensure that it aligns with his vision too.
Ndim equally said he was going to be throwing his weight behind the opposition coalition that may be formed.
He told MMI that ELECAM expected him to have all these files but is not present in all parts of the North West and South West Regions.
To him, the body is depriving those living in these regions of the right to vote.
Ndim Jacob equally was not happy with the constitutional council for not giving him ample time to present his case.
He argues that he has had a voter card receipt and is waiting for the original to be made available to him.
ELECAM also rejected him because he didn’t have any proof of voter registration.
Though his mission this year has been aborted, Ndim hopes to do things the right way before the next presidential election in 2032.
