Ndu Inter-village Conflict: Njirong villagers stage protest as administrators mute over ‘invasion’, burning of houses

The people of Njirong, a village in Ndu subdivision have staged a protest calling on the authorities to protect them.

Their request follows the latest ‘invasion’ of their land by inhabitants of neighboring Ntumbaw village, backed by the D.O. for Ndu subdivision.

Despite two rulings by the court in their favour, the Njirong people say their sister village keeps invading their fertile Mbawrong piece of land for farming and settlement.

In a latest incident, the ‘invaders’, they say, razed down houses and are planning to set up their own structures.

In response to the incident, administrative authorities have summoned a meeting between both parties, but Njirong locals say the session like many others will yield no result if government doesn’t follow up with the two court rulings that prove they truly own the land.

“Our mission here is to send a message to the administration of Ndu subdivision and the peace-loving peole of Cameroon that there is a problem and they have been too silent,” a spokesperson of the protesting residents told security forces during their protest.

“The wound is getting deeper and when those wounds get to an extent, it would be too difficult for us to control it! We don’t want the wounds to keep getting deeper …,” he added.

Many continue to blame the D.O. for the Ndu subdivision for backing the Ntumbaw people as they continue to defy the court orders without any repercussion.
