Nearly one hundred lawyers in court to defend Tamfu and co

A team of one hundred lawyers have stormed the Bonanjo Court of First Instance in Douala, Cameroon’s economic capital, for the trial of two of their colleagues, Barrister TAMFU NGARKA Tristel Richard and Maitre TCHUENMEGNE KENMEGNE ARMEL.

The two lawyers who were arrested last Wednesday, 18th of November, 2020 have been charged with three counts; destruction, disturbance of a public servant on duty and commenting on a matter which judgement is yet to be given.

The two lawyers have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court is “heavily militarized and we are not even allowed to take pictures, one of the lawyers tells Mimi Mefo Info.

Lawyers as a sign of protest for the arrest of their peers have all decided not to put on their robes in the trial of their colleagues.

They appeared in court on assorted attires.

Meanwhile a very strong team of Fako Lawyers Association, (FAKLA) headed by its new President, Barrister ASOH EPEY has equally made its appearance for the defense of their colleagues.

Four Cameroonian lawyers are currently under pre-trial detention.
